First official biketrial
A bike with no seat and a rider with no boundaries. That’s all you need to have fun at a quarry.
Norway’s first official Biketrial competition was held in a moonlike landscape of rocks out by the landfill Bjørke today. It was a mastery of bike and balance for everyone who came to watch.

The first official competition
A Biketrial can be held anywhere, in a city structure or out in a quarry like today. Tracks are set up, and the riders have a certain amount of time to go through the different sections, trying to balance on one wheel without touching the ground.
Though unofficial competitions have been arranged before, today was the first official Norwegian competition with all the participants certified by the Norwegian Cycling Association.
Eirik Ulltang, Head of Biketrial and Joachim Skjævestad, Head of Security, were both satisfied with the big day.
– No injuries and a good crowd, that is a success, said Skjævestad after the competition.
Mr. Biketrial
Photographers didn’t want to let Eirik Ulltang go after the competition, but rather do some extra tricks for the cameras. He was not only in charge of the competition, but also today’s winner, and one of the main athletes within the sport in Norway.
– I got my first real bike in 2004. I started doing this in 2000, but then I had to saw off the seats, he said.
For the record, all suspicions of fixed play ought to be dispelled; he didn’t set up the track himself.
– It’s a pretty objective sport for the judges too, he says. – The track is graded after difficulty, and you get a point every time you touch the ground. In this sport, the more points the lower on the lists.
– And we were only three contestants in the elite section, so we’re all medallists anyway.
