Insight - cutting edge science

We´re proud to announce that researchers from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) will share their Insight within disciplines such as psychology, physics, medicine and jazz at Ekstremsportveko this year.

NTNU invites athletes, locals and visitors to explore the science of extreme sports in two interesting presentations, "Body and Mind on the Edge" and "Flying man, the science and the suit" at Voss Kulturhus. The events are free of carge! Don´t miss this unique opportunity to explore the deeper levels of extreme sports!

Insight - Body and Mind on the Edge
Wednesday 29.06 at 17.30-18.45, Voss Kulturhus

How much can your body tolerate? How far can you push your mind? Breaking free – is it all about control? Three scientists explore the deeper levels of extreme sports together with the audience, delving into the mind, the body and the arts.

Bjørn Alterhaug NTNU Professor, Music and improvisation
Lisa Vivoll Straume NTNU PhD. Candidate, Positive psychology and Flow experience
Alf O. Brubakk NTNU Professor Emeritus, Environmental Physiology

Insight – Flying man, the science and the suit
Thursday 30.06 at 20.00-21.00, Voss Kulturhus

Like modern DaVincis, these Wingsuit scientists have developed a cutting edge wing profile, guaranteed to fly them further than all record holders. Optimized aerodynamics, flying techniques and security are combined into their newly manufactured suit that will be presented for the festival participants.

Hans Iver Lange Scientist, BASE jumper and Wingsuit innovator

Meet the NTNU scientists!

During Ekstremsportveko you can also meet the scientists from NTNU and ask them questions regarding physics, psychology, medicine and improvising

  • Alf Brubakk will make physical measurements and examine the body's reactions to extreme environments
  • Physicist Ola Hunderi has contributed to the program booklet with the calculations of forces in the exercise of extreme sports. During Ekstremsportveko you can meet him and ask questions regarding speed and forces in relation to your sport
  • Psychologist Lisa Vivoll Straume explains mental training, nervousness and self-regulation
  • Bjorn Alterhaug reflects about the qualities and risk of improvisation in music.
  • Take a closer look at newly innovated wingsuits.

You´re welcome to visit the NTNU- Researcher's Tent (next to the Festival tent) from June 29th - July 2nd from 16:00-19.00.
